On a landmark occasion for aviation in the Middle East, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) inaugurated its newly renovated Middle East Regional Office in Cairo, Egypt.
The modernization project, supported by the Egyptian government, underscores ICAO’s commitment to regional aviation cooperation and strengthens its presence and technical support capabilities in the Middle East.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by distinguished officials, including ICAO Council President Salvatore Sciacchitano, ICAO Secretary General Juan Carlos Salazar, and ICAO Middle East Regional Director Mohamed Abubaker Farea.
Speaking at the event, President Sciacchitano emphasized the significance of the upgraded facility, stating, “This renovation represents a significant investment in our shared aviation future.
The enhanced facilities will strengthen our ability to support Member States across the Middle East region.”
Modernization for Enhanced Regional Support
The updated office is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing the evolving demands of the aviation sector in the Middle East. ICAO’s Secretary General, Juan Carlos Salazar, highlighted the importance of the office’s role since its establishment decades ago.
“Our Middle East Office has played a vital role in advancing regional aviation cooperation ever since it was established.
This modernized facility will help us better serve the growing needs of aviation in the region,” Salazar said.
The renovation reflects ICAO’s focus on fostering collaboration among its Member States and providing enhanced technical assistance.
It also aligns with the organization’s broader mission of supporting the growth of safe, secure, and sustainable international aviation.
Strengthened Regional Partnerships
During the inauguration, ICAO leaders met with key Egyptian officials, including Captain Sameh El Hefny, Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation, and Captain Amr El Sharkawy, President of the Civil Aviation Authority of Egypt.
Discussions centered on bolstering regional cooperation and addressing shared challenges in the aviation industry.
Egypt has been a long-standing supporter of ICAO and its initiatives, and the country’s commitment to hosting the Middle East Regional Office further reinforces its leadership role in regional aviation.
Celebrating 80 Years of ICAO
The inauguration coincided with ICAO’s 80th anniversary, marking eight decades of the organization’s dedication to fostering global aviation safety, security, and sustainability.
ICAO leaders joined Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation in celebrating this milestone, reflecting on the progress made in aviation over the years and the Middle East region’s growing role in global aviation.
A New Era for Middle East Aviation
The renovated ICAO Middle East Regional Office stands as a testament to the organization’s dedication to the aviation industry in the region.
By enhancing its facilities and strengthening partnerships, ICAO aims to address emerging challenges and capitalize on opportunities in the rapidly expanding aviation sector.
With the Middle East poised to play an increasingly significant role in global air transport, this modernized facility is expected to facilitate greater regional cooperation and ensure that aviation continues to drive economic growth and connectivity in the region.
